The route is very simple to follow. Starting at the Boat house end of the lake on the scoreboard side, you will swim straight up the lake before making a right-hand turn to swim straight across. You will then make a 2nd right turn to head back towards Boat houses and complete a second lap. On your second lap, you will exit the water in front of the Grandstand and pass under the finish gantry.
This is a four lap course. Similar to the 2.5km route, it starts at the boat house heading up the lake with the scoreboard on your left, before making two right turns at the buoys to go across the lake then head back towards the starting end where you can stop at the swim up drink station or continue. On your final lap you will exit at the Grandstand seating and pass under the finish gantry to complete your event.
Typically, the temperature is around 22 degrees, but this is dependent on the weather in the preceding weeks. We will not know definitively until the temperature is measured on the morning of the event.
No, you don’t have to wear a wetsuit, however we recommend that you train and practice with whatever kit you plan to use on race day.
To enter the 2.5k you need to be 12 by 31 December 2022, for the 5k you need to 13 by 31 December 2022.
All finishers will receive a medal and there will be an additional award for winners in each age group.
You can swim any stroke apart from backstroke (as we ask swimmers requiring assistance from the Water Safety crew to turn onto their backs).
We will be using a mass start format. If you are nervous about being overtaken by other swimmers, we recommend waiting a few seconds to let the pack start, this will give you more space. You can also swim to the left of the racing line if you are nervous about being overtaken.
The 5k event will be over four laps, the 2.5k event is 2 laps. You do not have to exit between laps. There will be a swim-up drinks station set up on the end of the pontoons if you want to use it.
All race packs will be available to collect on the day of the race.
Entries on the day will be accepted subject to availability, we recommend entering in advance to secure your place at a lower price and to save you queuing on the day.
The 2.5km race starts at 9am and the 5km race starts at 11:30am
We will have water and HIGH5 available for the race. There will also be drinks and food available to purchase in our event village.
There will be a basic bag drop facility where you can leave your belongings and there will be a table near the swim start for you to keep small items like glasses. We recommend not leaving valuables in your bag, please leave these with friends and family or there are lockers available inside the main building.
There are changing and shower facilities inside the main building.
There will be an area where you can store shoes – please ensure you collect these after the race, any remaining at the end of the day will be thrown away or donated to charity.
For the 5km swim, there will be a cut off for Lap Two which needs to be completed by 12:45pm
