Do you have a waiting list?

We do not have a waiting list. Once the race is full, the only way to get in is via our official charities – Alzheimer’s Research UK or Cancer Research UK (CR-UK).

I entered using the payment plan, how do I pay my next instalment?

Once you have paid your initial deposit, your instalments will be taken automatically using the card details you gave when you originally entered. If your card expires or becomes invalid and the payment cannot be taken, you will be sent an email by Active to let you know. Please then log into your Active account at https://myevents.active.com/ and click on Billing Management to update your card details and make the payment.
It is your responsibility to make sure that you payments are completed before the withdrawal deadline or you will forfeit your place in the event.
After your initial payment of £125 taken at entry your second payment of £90 will be taken on 13 June 2022.

I am unable to take part; can I transfer or sell my place to a friend?

Transfers to another athlete are not permitted. If you are unable to take part, please contact us at info@osbevents.com to officially withdraw. The date that you inform us that you wish to withdraw will determine whether a refund will be made and the amount that will be refunded (please check our terms and conditions for more information). If you have entered using the payment plan your initial payment is not refundable. If you have completed your payments, we can issue a partial refund based on the terms and conditions.
The partial refund until 37 days is £85.
It is possible to transfer your entry to a different Outlaw 2022 event (provided they haven’t sold out), for a fee of £25, plus any additional entry fees payable. This must be done at least 5 weeks before the date of the event you originally entered and your target event must still be open for entries. You can do this by calling the office on 01522 699950. It is also possible to change your entry to a relay until 5 weeks before the event. There will be a £30 increase in entry fee, plus £10 processing fee to pay. You will need to call the office on 01522 699950 before 5pm on the Friday before the withdrawal deadline.
Please note that no transfers or changes can be made after 29 July 2022 and no refunds are offered for withdrawals after this date.

Can I enter as a relay team and how many team members do I need.

Yes, you can enter a relay team at all Outlaw Triathlon Series events. Usually, these are teams of three, but a team of two is ok as well.

Can I change my individual entry into a relay entry?

It is possible to change your entry to a relay up to 5 weeks before the event. This should be done by calling 01522 699950. There will be a £30 increase in entry fee plus a £10 Admin fee to pay.

Can I change my relay team members?

Yes, you can up to 4 weeks before the event, this should be done via your Active account at https://myevents.active.com/.
Changes after this date can be made by contacting our office on 01522 699950 up until 19 August 2022. No further changes can be made after this date.

Is there an elite wave I can enter?

To enter the elite wave you need to provide evidence of a sub 5 hour (female) or sub 4:30 (male) result from a previous event. If the event isn’t sold out, you can enter via the entry system and select ‘elite wave’ during the process. If it is already sold out, please contact us via info@osbevents.com and we will do our best to accommodate you if we can. We will review the entry list to ensure that athletes meet the minimum criteria. Please note, athletes entered in the Elite wave are not eligible for Age Group prizes. Also note that where there are insufficient elites entered, athletes will revert to their relevant age group category.


Pre Event Information

Are there separate Age Group categories & awards?

Prizes will be awarded for standard age groups e.g. 25-29 years, 30-34 years and so on. Please note that your age group is decided based on your age on 31/12/2022.

Can I camp onsite?

Yes, we plan to build a bespoke camp site at the venue which will be open Saturday and Sunday night. There will be more information on this soon. The link to book is on the event overview page.

What other accommodation is available?

There is a range of hotels and B&B’s in the local area.

When/how will I receive my race pack?

Packs are to be collected on site. You will be allocated a collection time when the Start List is published. We allocate times in order to reduce queuing and make your registration and racking experience smoother.

When do I have to rack my bike?

All bike racking will take place on Saturday only and generally will close around 4pm. There are no other options and you will not be able to rack on race morning. Please check your race information nearer the time for specific information about racking times and for information about other items you need to bring with you e.g. Photo ID.

Do I leave other items in transition overnight and can I cover my bike?

You only need to rack your bike the day before the race. All other items can be brought into transition on race morning. You can cover your bike if you wish to, but please think about how you do it if it is windy. A fully covered bike can become a sail!

When is event registration?

You will register and present your ID and race license when you come to rack on Saturday. We cannot register anyone without photo ID so please make sure you bring it with you. A photo is sufficient if you do not carry your wallet/purse. Please make sure that you wear your security wristband for the whole weekend as you will not be able to retrieve your bike without it!

Are there route maps available and can I train on the course?

Yes, the course maps are available for you to download from our website, however please be aware that you will not have access to all parts of the course in advance of race day. Some parts of the course are private land and and we ask you to respect the owners privacy. Please do not attempt to access the lake or sections of the route which are normally closed to public access. For parts of the course which are publicly accessible, please be cautious and mindful that on race day there will be specific traffic management in place for safety reasons.
It is possible that our published routes may be subject to change, however we are confident that these are the routes that will be used.

Can I swim in the lake prior to the race?

Sorry, there are no opportunities to swim in the lake prior to the event. The lake is on private land and we ask you to respect the owners privacy.

What temperature will the Lake be?

This is entirely dependent on the weather in the preceding weeks. We will not know definitively until the temperature is measured on the morning of the event.

Can I swim without a wetsuit?

No. Wetsuits are always compulsory for Outlaw events. You can wear a sleeveless wetsuit, but you must wear one. No Wetsuit, no race.

How hilly is the bike course and what type of bike would you recommend.

This our most challenging Outlaw bike course. It has some sharp climbs and descents but we wouldn’t describe it as hilly and both road or TT bikes are suitable. Please check the course information on the website for details of the route and profile.

What is the terrain on the run and what shoes do you recommend?

The run is fairly hilly with mixed terrain. Road shoes are suitable in dry conditions only. Trail shoes are advisable, or anything with a small amount of additional grip. Please check the course information on the website for details of the route and profile.

Can I train on the run course prior to the race?

Only a small section of the run is open to the public. It is not possible to access the majority of the course as it is on private land. Please do not attempt to access the private sections of the route as it causes bad feeling towards the event.

Are there cut-off times for each section?

Yes, to ensure the smooth & safe organisation of the event, we have some specific cut-off times. All of the cut-off times are based on your start time. You need to be ahead of the cut off at all times, you will not be able to rely on catching time up later in the course. If you are behind you will be asked to leave the race.
Swim Cut Off – 1 hour 10 minutes with a further 10 minutes allowed to reach bike mount.
Bike Finish Cut-Off – 5 Hours 20 Mins (including your swim time)
Run Finish – 9 Hours Total

Do people miss the cut off times, and if so, what happens to them?

Unfortunately some people do miss the cut offs and we have to remove them from the race before they finish.
You must be ahead of the cut offs at every stage of the race – if you miss one, you will not be allowed to continue on the assumption that you can make up time later in the course.
If you miss a cut off you will not be allowed to continue and you will either need to make your own way back to transition or we will transport you back to the venue if required.


Event Day Infomation

What time does the event start?

The race will start with the first competitors setting off at 7am. You will need to check your race information nearer the time for your individual start time.

Are there changing and transition tents?

No, not for the half. Your race equipment must be stored by your bike. Additional kit will either be held in a bag storage area or next to your bike depending on the latest race regulations or you can leave it with your supporters.
Please keep all bags a reasonable size ie. airline cabin baggage size.

Can I carry a mobile phone on the course?

You can carry mobile phone, but it must not be used in any distractive manner during the race. You cannot play music on it.

What are the common mistakes made by competitors?

Not reading the race information! Even if you have done this race before, there may be changes to how it is being run this year. Please read your race information fully when you get it so you know how everything will work. This includes knowing when to rack your bike and what you must bring with you to do this.
Not knowing where their stuff is in transition. Make sure to visualise your run out of the water and how to locate your bike, same again for T2.
Not arriving early enough. Remember there is a lot to do before a race, there will be queues for toilets and it may be some distance to the swim start.

When should I eat on the morning of the race?

Everyone should develop their own strategy during training, but most competitors have their breakfast around two to three hours before the start, and then drink to ensure they are hydrated. You may find it helpful to eat something small or take a gel or two 15-30mins before your race start.

What nutrition do you have on the course?

High 5 is our on-course nutrition partner.
On the bike feed station there are 750ml bottles of water or High5 Energy Drink Citrus. There will also be High5 Energy Gels in Orange and Berry flavour and High5 Energy Gels Plus in Raspberry flavour available on the bike course as well as bananas.
Along the run course there will be feed stations at approx. every 1.5 miles. Each feed station will have Cups of Water, Cups of High5 Energy Drink, Cups of Cola, High5 Iso Gels: Mixture of flavours, High5 Iso Plus Gels: Mixture of Flavours, High5 Zero and Bananas. There will also be toilets at the feed stations.

Where should I start on the swim?

You will be allocated a swim start time based on the information you provide – the start could either be a time trial format where you start in pairs or mass starts in smaller wave groups, this will be confirmed in your race information. Please ensure that you arrive to the swim start at your allocated time.
You do not have to dive in races where a diving start is allowed – you will be able to jump or slide into the water if you prefer. If you are a nervous swimmer or find that you are being overtaken, you may find it better to position yourself to the side of the main racing line.

How many feed stations are there & where are there?

This is still undecided currently. There were various restrictions in place during 2021 and we are unaware to what, if any restrictions there might be in 2022.

How do competitors get a penalty or DQ in the race?

You can only receive a penalty or disqualification from a BTF Official. Penalties will be displayed in the foyer of the main venue building. To avoid being disqualified or penalised, ensure you are familiar with the BTF rules and follow them at all times e.g.
· Do not cross the centre line of the road (ride on the correct side at all times), especially when cornering.
· Do not urinate in public, there are plenty of toilets at all feed stations on the course and in transition.
· Don’t ride dangerously, please ensure that you adhere to the Highway Code
– Don’t behave in a rude or aggressive manner
· Don’t draft – ensure you keep your distance from other riders. Once you pass someone it is their responsibility to drop back. There are motorbike referees on the course.
· Do not drop litter!



What can family do while I am racing?

Bowood House and Gardens is a major attraction and has various activities – have a look at https://www.bowood.org. Please note that access into the House and Adventure Playground of Bowood House & Gardens is subject to the standard admission fee.
On race day, there is a great atmosphere at the venue and spectators get to see you multiple times during the run as well as cheer the other competitors. We will have a race expo, food outlets etc.

Is there WiFi at the venue?

Yes, there is. The password is regularly changed so you will need to ask at the main registration desk. Mobile signals are generally good on site.

Is there any live tracking?

Yes, we will have an athlete tracker. The link to the tracker will be available from our website in the immediate lead up to the race. We also have various live social media updates. Please note that this is not precise tracking but an average pace based on your time recorded at fixed points on the course.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome on the race site but they must stay on a lead.
