Outlaw X Records Set at Season Finale
The season finale of the Outlaw Triathlon Series took place at Thoresby Park on 26 September. Fraser Minnican and Emma Cowper claimed the top spots at Outlaw X and shared the course record bonus pot of £1500.
Outlaw X was launched in 2019 as a celebratory event to mark ten years of Outlaw, and it gained even more significance in 2020 when it attracted a pro field and was one of the few events to take place during the covid-hit year. This year’s event was a wonderful end to the season with a top age group field able to enjoy glorious sunshine around the vast North Nottingham Park.
Minnican, a former standout swimmer at Loughborough University was taking part in his first ever Half distance event ahead of getting married later this week. He was nearly two minutes faster than anybody else and his cycling and running ability also caught the eye.
Having finished second overall at Outlaw Half Bowood two weeks ago, Cowper was one to watch in the women’s race. She delivered a superb performance to break the course record. She and third place Debbie Greig previous raced at Outlaw Half Holkham in 2017, where Greig took the top spot. Both have had children since then and have brilliantly combined training with toddlers.
Across the different age groups there were personal triumphs and eye-catching performances. A number of athletes completed the whole Outlaw Triathlon Series – five endurance events in just four months.
Outlaw X covers a 1.2 mile lake swim followed by a single-lap, 56 mile bike ride around North Nottinghamshire. The three-lap, 13.1 mile run around Thoresby Estate features some on and off-road sections with plenty of opportunity for crowd support.
